Cross Country Competes with Wartburg and Nebraska Wesleyan

On Saturday, September 26th, the Coe College men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted Wartburg and Nebraska Wesleyan in only the second American River’s Conference triangular at Seminole Valley Park here in Cedar Rapids. Cross country is one of only four sports that are currently allowed to compete safely with COVID-19 guidelines in place.

Ian Hoover-Grinde (‘21) led the men’s team by finishing the 6K race with a time of 27:58. That time gave him a great finish in tenth place. Right behind Hoover-Grinde was Coe Booker (‘22) with a time of 28:20 in eleventh place. Following Booker was the rest of the men’s squad Justin Phillips (‘21), Ryan Smith (‘23), and Lewis Klemen (‘24) respectively. Wartburg won the men’s team title.

On the women’s side, Kandice Kittinger (‘23) led the Kohawks in the 5K race with a time of 24:30. Crystal Burke (‘24) ran close behind Kittinger with a time of 26:38. Rounding out the times were Martha Jesuit (‘21) and Marissa Cartwright (‘21) respectively. Wartburg also took home the women’s team title.
Coe will compete again on October 10th at the third triangular which will be hosted by Dubuque with Buena Vista in attendance as well.
